Combating problem plant...
Our problem plant: Inkberry which is poisonous to animals. We have lost a few cows to thanks to this plant because they are so sensitive and also this plant takes over once it starts growing.
Our mission: Cut it off or fight fire with fire, meaning poison.
We used a herbicide called Round Up.
We used two different methods on the plant, to see which one is more effective. The first method, we mixed a blue colourant with the Round Up and used spray bottles to spray onto the plants since the poison is taken in through photosynthesis.
The second was by cutting the plant as close to the roots as possible and then dabbing the exposed root.
In order to use this poison we need to protect ourselves first by using gloves since this herbicide can be fatal if taken in orally or by bloodstream for example through a cut or wound.
This looked like an easy job at first but once you got started spraying, cutting and dabbing the plants just seem to pop out of nowhere and once you think you're done, you'll look around and just see another 'colony' of them. And once you believe you're done, you'll walk around and then you'll discover that there aren't just little knee plants, there are actually trees of this Inkberry. So at the end of the day, my clothes were blue, the plants were covered, we look left and... There's another bush...
