It's been a while but I'm here to update you on the past few weeks, the first couple being the best weeks of my life here on Sondela. So let's just start at the reason my weeks have been so amazing...
I now have a baby girl, no she's not human but she's a naughty little lioness that we call Mouna.
On one of my off weekends I received a call late night from my uncle, him in hysteria because he had a baby lion in his car that he found on the farm that we live on. At first he thought it was a dog and when he got out to call it, the animal came closer and it became clearer that it was no dog, but a feline, an actual lion. He asked me to call the people at the Wildlife Centre to inform them that he's on his way with the lion. When he arrived there, the people were waiting for him, everyone ready to take care of a new lion and excitement in everybody's blood.
It was my first off weekend that I actually wished that I was working and I couldn't wait to get back to work on Tuesday.
The weekend was over and I was back at work and I immediately fell in love with the most incredible, cutest baby lion in the world. She is between 2 and 3 months old, she was starving when she got there, so they immediately put her on meat and esbilac which is uncommon since at that age, our lions are still on milk.
In the beginning, she moaned a lot (that's where her name came from) since she was hand raised, she was looking for her owner the whole time so we had to sit with her 24/7 until she grew used to us. We made split shifts and sometimes you even fell asleep in her cage next to her. If you were on night duty, she slept in bed with you or sometimes she didn't sleep, she just kept you up with her naughty habit of eating shoes.
I fell in love with this little girl and I even became like a mother, putting her in the corner when she was naughty, spanking her when she bit me and hugging her more than she was used to. So here are a few photos of our time together...
